Ndidi was born in Ikeja, Lagos on the 16th of December 1996. His father to a military officer while his mother was a trader. He is the only male out of three children in the family. Ndidid grew up in the popular Ikeja cantonment in Lagos. He attended Command Children School where he represented the school in many football competitions. Ndidi started playing football against the wishes of his military father, however due to the nature of the military job, Ndidid was able to achieve his dream of playing football by moving to Nath Boys Academy when his father was away on duty. Ndidi is widely known as a battle hardened midfielder, however he started out as a striker for Nath Boys Academy. His performance at the academy earned him the recognition of scouts and he got the shock of his life when he was called up for the 2013 African u-17 Championship. It was until he was called up to represent the golden eaglets of Nigeria that his father knew he had dropped out of school, despite this he approved of his decision to play football. Due to his ability to adapt easily to game plan, the player was immediately absorbed into the golden eaglets team where he played as a central midfielder.
Ndidi was eventually removed from the competition as a case of caution following the failure of MRI age test alongside two other players. After his successful stint with Nath Boys Academy in Lagos, Europe came calling on the door step of Ndidi during the 2014-2015 winter transfer window. Ndidi moved to Belgium for trial with RFC Genk and he played as a central defender during the trial match and due to his impressive performance in a new position, he was offered a two years deal with KRC Genk on the 15th of January. Ndidi made his debut appearance in the league on the 31st of January 2015 in a 1-0 away loss at Charleroi. He started the match before he was substituted in the 74th minute of the match. During his debut season at Genk, Ndidi made 6 appearances. In his first full season at, Ndidi became a regular in the first team and he played 36 matches for Genk in the league, with a modest return of four goals from a defensive midfield position. One of the goals Ndidi score was named the best goal of the season during the 2015-2016 season. In total, he made 43 appearance for Genk in his second season at the club. In his final season with Genk, Ndidi spent half a season and he made 19 appearances before he signed for English Champions, Leicester city. On the 3rd of December 2016, Leicester agreed to sign Ndidi and the transfer was completed on the 5th of January 2017. He was signed for 78,000 Euros by Genk.
Unlike his international team mates who were at Leicester city, Ahmeed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho, Ndidi quickly adapted to the playing style of Leicester city and he became a regular face in the starting line up almost immediately. Ndidi made his debut for Leicester city in a FA cup third round match against Everton, Leicester city won by 2 goals to 1. He made his English Premier league bow in a 3-0 home defeat against Chelsea. Ndidi scored his first goal for Leicester city in a FA cup fourth round match. He came on as substitute in the first half of the 30 minutes extra time to put Leicester in a commanding position in the game, they eventually ran out as 3-1 winner. In his first season for Leicester city, Ndidi played 17 league games and he scored twice. In the 2017-2018 season, he played 33 league games for Leicester city without finding the net. However, he managed to score his only goal of the season for the club during the FA cup. During that season Ndidi also got his birthday gift in 2017 on the field of play when he was given his marching order for diving in the 61st minute by Martin Atkinson in a 3-0 loss to crystal palace on the 16th of December 2017. In the 2018-2019 season, Ndidi has played 22 games for Leicester city and he has scored twice.
Ndidi represented the flying eagles of Nigeria at various U-20 conpetitions alongside Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac Succees, Kelechi Ihenacho. Ndidi was invited to the super eagles camp on the 8th of October 2015, playing his debut for the super eagles in a friendly match against DR congo and playing a few days later against Cameroon. Ndidi was initially selected to represent Nigeria with the green eagles at Rio 2016 Olympics. Ndidi represented Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA world cup in Russia and he played all the three group matches.

While playing for Genk, Ndidi was named amongst the best 11 players in the Europa League group stage having won more tackles and the most interception in the group stage. He also contributed two goals alongside his defensive duties. Of the best young player in the Belgian League of that year, Ndidi was named the third.
